“A few good Saturdays”
Pictures from the first-Saturday meetups in the club room on Elgin Street, taken by members and shown with the say-so of everyone in them.
How photos get here
Every picture on this page was taken by a member and shared with the permission of everyone in it. Anyone who finds themselves pictured and would prefer not to be can tell a moderator, and the photo is removed within a day, no questions asked. Please ask before you point a camera at anyone, and remember that a quiet no is always a complete answer.
We photograph screens, tables and hands more often than faces, partly out of courtesy and partly because the best moments at a meetup are the ones where nobody is posing.
What the pictures cannot show is the noise: the clatter of dice, an argument about a rule that ends in laughter, and the squeal of a chair pushed back too quickly when a final goes to the last round. Come on a first Saturday and you will hear it for yourself.
I came for the matches and stayed because people in the room remembered my nickname before they remembered my real name.
